Profile

Capital Punishment Klik (abbreviated as CPK) is an American gangsta rap duo from Nashville, Tennessee, consisting of D.J. Trixx and Supreme. The group operated at the intersection of gangsta rap and G‑Funk, was part of the underground southern rap scene in the mid‑90s, and still enjoys a cult reputation among collectors.
The band’s debut release - the cassette album “Return From The Dead” - came out in 1995 on the local label G-Style Muzik. The album included 10 tracks. The track “On The Blindside” features a guest artist, Tom Tom. The production was entirely self‑made - the beats and mixing were done by D.J. Trixx and Supreme themselves.
1996 was a key year for the group - two albums were released at once. “Ghetto Storiez” was released on the Blac Katz Entertainment label and included 17 tracks. Micah Otis handled the engineering, mixing, and mastering; Lytle Allen and Patrick Chadwick served as executive producers. “It Ain't No Mystery” was released on G-Style Muzik (according to other sources - on en-Rap-ture Records) and contained 13 tracks. The recording featured the group South Squad, as well as guests: Nuttcase 001, 10 Quezz, Chad C (from Memphis), Lil J (from Nashville), Rawlow-B and Tra.
The third album, “Shadow Of Death,” was originally released in 1997 only on cassette. It included 22 tracks. The producers were Junbug and Supreme.
The band’s last full‑length album, “Different Levels Of Tha Game,” was released in 2001 on the Eternal Records label and included 17 tracks. Beats and production - again, Junbug and Supreme. Among the guests: Kamillian, Nutcase 001, Big Nig, Flu, Christy Paisley, Piano Man. The album was classified as Southern Rap. After this album, the band fell silent for a long time.
In 2020, CPK returned with the single “Hunger” (featuring MRJUNBUG), released on the Cashville Radio D.J TRIXX label. Following it, the single “POLICE 2 MY HOUSE” was released (also featuring MRJUNBUG). At the same time, the reissue of the group's catalog began. “Ghetto Storiez” was reissued on colored vinyl (gatefold 2×LP, limited to 100–150 copies) and CD in 2021, remastered by Jee Van Cleef. “Shadow Of Death” was officially released on CD for the first time (limited to 300 copies) in December 2021. “Different Levels Of Tha Game” was reissued on CD (limited to 200 copies) in May 2022 and was also remastered. “It Ain't No Mystery” was reissued in 2024.
Capital Punishment Klik played hard gangsta rap with a pronounced G‑Funk sound - heavy bass, melodic synthetic lines, and street‑oriented lyrics. The group worked closely with the South Squad collective, as well as with a number of local artists from Tennessee and Memphis.
