His stage name is based on the character Half Dead of the film Penitentiary (1979). He is the cousin of Nate Dogg and was an associate of the group 213 in his early years in the rap scene. He joined Dr. Dre on the trip across America on the Chronic Tour of 1993. His solo debut album, The Dead Has Arisen, was released in 1994.
